Brooks is Close to Setting Up LSU Visit

Ron Brooks is busy. The 5-star wide receiver is busy going to school, busy playing football and busy playing a new position- quarterback.

In fact, Ron Brooks (6-0, 170, 4.5) told Tiger Rag that he will probably be too busy to take any unofficial visits, but he did say he wants to make it to Baton Rouge within the next month for his official visit.

"I'm looking at my schedule and hopefully I'll be able to make it a long weekend after a Thursday game," said Brooks. "I don't know exactly what schools are going to get official visits, but I know for sure that LSU is where I'm going to take one."

Brooks said he hasn't quite narrowed the other four schools down from his top eight of Florida, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tennessee, LSU, Nebraska and Oklahoma, but he did give three other schools he has at the top of his visit list.

"I'm thinking about Notre Dame, Florida and Nebraska," said Brooks. "They are not necessarily my top five, they are just schools I'm interested in and that I want to get to check out. These are just schools I want to get to, but for now I only have a top eight."

Last season for McArthur High School Brooks pulled down 51 receptions for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. As a quarterback, he also rushed 50 times for 298 yards and two touchdowns.

Those stats helped earn him first-team all-district honors as well as being named to the "Who's Who" list in Texas, and it also played a part in him being tabbed as the No. 6 receiver in America by Scout.com.

So far this season, Brooks has spent time under center as well as lining up at receiver. He has led his team to an undefeated record and last game he scored two touchdowns, one running and one receiving, and threw for 44 yards on 4-of-10 passing.

Brooks will play receiver in college but for now he has the team's needs ahead of his own.

How has the move been?

"I'm doing good with the transition," said Brooks. "I'm definitely doing better than I thought I would."

When it comes to LSU, Brooks said he wants to visit LSU for a couple of reasons.

"I just like the way LSU plays football," he said. "I've been talking with (receivers coach) coach (Todd) Monken and he's an honest coach. He doesn't tell me what I want to hear. He's straight up with me and that's a good quality to have in a coach."

Note** Brooks said he has straight A's this semester and although he scored an 18 on his ACT, he plans on taking the SAT in November.
