Barksdale talks about trip to South Bend

One of the top rated defensive tackles in the country is Joseph Barksdale of Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech and he said that LSU is on his list of schools to officially visit. The 4-star prospect just got back from an official visit to South Bend to watch the Notre Dame/Michigan game and he gave the trip a favorable review.

"I had a good time up at Notre Dame," he said. "The atmosphere and the fans were great."

Barksdale said he has his trip to Baton Rouge scheduled for Nov. 11 when the Alabama Crimson Tide come a calling.

"I talked with coach (Earl) Lane and coach Miles and they said that should be a good game to watch," said Barksdale. "I talked with them two weeks ago and they were just telling me about all the things I could do on my visit."

What will Barksdale be looking for on his visit?

"I'll be trying to get as much information about the school as possible," he said. "I want to get a feel for the atmosphere and watch the defense live. I also want to meet the players and see what they are like."

Barksdale said from what he's seen from the Tigers' defense so far this season, he is very impressed.

"I just love their relentlessness when attacking the ball," he said.

When asked if he could see himself fitting in he replied, "Yeah."

Barksdale does have an unofficial visit planned for this season. He said he wants to go to the Ohio State, Penn State game. Because he lives only 2-1/2 hours from Ohio State, the trip will be a quick one for him.

Other official visits for Barksdale include a West-Coast trip to USC, where he will once again watch Notre Dame play. But what do all of these schools have in common for Barksdale?

"They have a good mix of academics and athletics," he related.

Note: Academics is something that is important to Barksdale as he has maintained a 3.5 GPA and scored a 22 on his ACT. All of that hard work has paid off and there is a good chance that he will graduate in December and enroll at the college of his choice in January.
