Prospect Roundup

Here is a look at how some of the top prospects on LSU's board and others in Louisiana fared over the weekend, along with a look ahead to 2008 and 2009.

LSU Prospects

5-star running back Joe McKnight carried the ball only 4 times in John Curtis' 35-6 win over West Jefferson but he made the most of each one. Scout.com's No. 6 rated back took a handoff on the first play of the game and went 62 yards untouched for the score. He later added a 53-yard TD run and finished with 121 yards on the ground.

Breaux Bridge's John Williams accounted for 2 scores in the Tigers win over Abbeville. Williams ran for 57 yards and a score, and added a 23-yard scoring pass while completing 5-of-7 passes for 103 yards.

Bastrop's DeAngelo Benton did not get many touches because the Rams' defense scored a pair of early touchdowns but when he did catch 2 passes for 20 yards including a 14-yard touchdown. Bastrop rolled to a 56-0 win over Block.

Shreveport-Captain defeated Haughton 28-0 and linebacker Dusty Rust played a big role in the shutout. Rust had 12 tackles (4 solos & 8 assists) and a forced fumble. He also picked off a pass returned it 23 yards for a TD.

St. Thomas More's Grant Fleming picked off a pass in the Cougars' 27-0 shutout of Beau Chenne. Lance Kelley, who is being recruited by LSU as a safety, hauled in a 79-yard scoring pass.

Patterson safety Tarence Calais has put up some big numbers on the offensive side of the ball since moving to quarterback and he did so again last Friday. Calais accounted for 4 scores with 3 on the grounds and 1 through the air.

LSU commit Josh Jasper is having a solid senior campaign at the midway point. He has connected on 5-of-7 field goals and is a perfect 25-of-25 on extra points.

Stevan Ridley had another super outing in leading Natchez-Trinity Episcopal to a 56-13 victory over Wilkinson Academy. The 3-star running back had 3 scoring runs of 11, 25 and 38 yards, and he also tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass. For the season, Ridley has rolled up more than 1,200 yards of total offense and has accounted for 23 TDs.

Jarrett Lee and his Brenham (3-1) teammates rolled to a 56-28 win over Bay City behind the 4-star quarterback's 3 TD passes and 151 yards passing. For the year, Lee has completed 63-of-107 passes for 855 yards and 14 scores with only 2 interceptions.

4-star wide out Dez Bryant hauled in an 80- yard TD pass and later added a 51-yard score in Lufkin's 50-13 win over Eisenhower. Lufkin is 4-0 on the season.

3-star prospect Sam Proctor of Pearland (4-0) directed a 24-14 win over LaMarque. He rushed 18 times for 139 yards and 1 TD from 28 yards out. Proctor attempted only 2 passes and did not complete either of them. He leads Pearland with 521 yards and 9 TDs while averaging 7.9 yards a carry.

5-star safety Mark Barnes is one of the top two-way players in the country but he found things tough to come by on offense this past week. Barnes, who is Scout.com's 4th rated safety but is also a terrific receiver, had 1 catch 11 yards and 2 carries for the same amount in Columbia-Richland Northeast's 47-33 loss to Irmo High School.
