GAMETRAK: Florida 23, LSU 10

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A drive by drive account of the scoring from Saturday's game in The Swamp.

LSU Tigers at Florida Gators

Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field

Gainesville, Fla.

Attendance: 90,714

1st Quarter

LSU 7, Florida 0

Drive:  9 Plays, 73 Yards, 4:38

Scoring Play: JaMarcus Russell 2 pass to Jacob Hester

PAT: Colt David kick

Clock: 6:45

Key Play: Facing third and four from the LSU 44, JaMarcus Russell showed extreme patience in allowing Craig Davis to go deep down the Florida sideline. Russell lofted a perfectly thrown touch pass to Davis, who cradled the ball beyond double coverage for a 27-yard gain to the Florida 29. A flag was thrown for what many thought was offensive holding, but the Gators were flagged for illegal contact to the head. The penalty was assessed on the end of the catch, giving LSU possession at the UF 16.

Note: Florida had driven to the LSU 25 yard line before Luke Sanders forced a fumble, which Jesse Daniels recovered. The Gators did not record a single turnover a year ago in Tiger Stadium. LSU had five.

LSU 7, Florida 7

Drive: 6 Plays, 19 Yards, 3:38

Scoring Play: Tim Tebow 1 Run

PAT: Chris Hetland Kick

Clock: 0:11

Key Play: Forcing Florida to punt after a disastrous chain of events, LSU looked to have the momentum swinging very much in its direction. But Chevis Jackson muffed the ensuing punt, which Florida recovered at the Tigers' 19.

Note: Tebow's 1-yard run was the first, first half touchdown allowed by the LSU defense this season.

2nd Quarter

Florida 14, LSU 7

Drive: 9 Plays, 72 Yards,

Scoring Play: Tebow 1 Pass to Tate Casey

PAT: Chris Hetland Kick

Clock: 0:22

Key Play: Through five games this season, whenever Tebow has been inserted into the game for Florida, he is typically going to run the ball. That pretty much remained the same versus LSU as Tebow ran designed quarterback draws every time he touched the field. On second and goal from the one, Tebow tucked it and looked as if he was going to bull it into the touchdown. But at the last second, the freshman quarterback leapt into midair and literally shot-putted the ball to a wide open Tate Casey in the back of the end zone.

Note: The 1-yard scoring toss was Tebow's first career touchdown as a Florida Gator.

3rd Quarter

Florida 16, LSU 7

Drive: n/a

Scoring Play: Trindon Holliday tackled in the end zone for safety

Clock: 14:46

Key Play: On the opening kickoff of the second half, Early Doucet mishandled the kick and was hit immediately by Jermaine McCollum. The ball bounded backwards into the end zone, where Trindon Holliday recovered for the safety.

Note: The safety was the second of the season recorded by Florida. The other came against Central Florida on Sept. 9.

Florida 23, LSU 7

Drive: 5 Plays, 67 Yards, 2:41

Scoring Play: Tebow 35 pass to Louis Murphy

PAT: Chris Hetland Kick

Clock: 12:05

Key Play: Again, Florida used the Tebow run option as a decoy. On second and one from the LSU 35, Tebow took the snap in the shotgun and appeared headed for the first down. He stepped back after faking the run and found a streaking Murphy who slipped behind the LSU secondary, which bit on the fake.

Note: It is the first game in which LSU came gave up two passing touchdowns dating back to the 2005 SEC Championship game versus Georgia.

4th Quarter

Florida 23, LSU 10

Drive: 12 Plays, 61 Yards, 4:04

Scoring Play: Colt David 45 FG

Clock: 11:53

Key Play: On second and one from the Florida 42, Jacob Hester found lots of running room over the left side. The junior tailback ran through a gaping hole opened up by left guard Herman Johnson for 18 yards, LSU's longest gain on the ground in the game.

Note: Colt David was 1 of 2 on field goals Saturday, missing from 41 yards earlier in the third quarter. David is 3 of 4 on the season and 7 of 9 in his career at LSU.
