Will LSU tap into the JC ranks for Byrd?

Demetrius Byrd (6-2, 195, 4.4) is a 5-star receiver juco prospect out of Pearl River CC and the LSU coaches have their eyes on him.

Demetrius Byrd, who has 603 yards receiving on 31 catches and five touchdowns so far this season, is also being recruited by and showing interest in Tennessee, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Out of that group, though, Byrd said Tennessee and LSU are his favorites right now.

What stands out about the Tigers?

"I like LSU because it has a great receiving squad and great quarterbacks," said Byrd. "I especially like how they have a young quarterback like Ryan Perrilloux. I talked with coach Monken (LSU receivers coach) and he told me that they are probably going to be losing some guys and that they would need someone like me to step up and contribute."

LSU is so interested in Byrd that Monken took a trip to visit with the Miami, Fla. native two weeks ago.

"He didn't get to watch me play, but I've been sending him game film and highlights," said Byrd. "We talked about me coming down to catch a game.

"He didn't give me an offer, but he did say that schools like LSU wouldn't waste their time coming down to visit if they didn't think they would offer. I don't know if my visit will be official or not, but I'd like to make it down for the Alabama game or the Ole Miss game."
