Lady Tiger duo tabbed all-SEC preseason

Sylvia Fowles and Erica White, both juniors on LSU's women's basketball team, received preseason All-Southeastern Conference honors from the leagues' 12 coaches, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Fowles, a 6-6 center from Miami, Fla., received first-team honors and was one of four unanimous selections on the eight-member team, while White, a 5-3 point guard from Jacksonville, Fla., earned a spot on the eight-member second-team.

Fowles was a first-team All-SEC selection following the 2005-06 season and averaged 15.9 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game for the Lady Tigers. She ranked fifth in the nation in rebounds per game, seventh in field goal percentage and 27th in blocked shots.

White started the final 20 games for LSU last season and averaged 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per contest. She finished the season ranked 25th in assists and set the school record for assists by a sophomore.

LSU was one of four schools to place at least two players on the preseason teams, joining Tennessee, Georgia and Vanderbilt.

The coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.

LSU opens the exhibition season on Nov. 1 against Loyola (New Orleans) at 7 p.m. CT in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The regular season gets underway on Nov. 12 when the Lady Tigers host West Virginia at 2 p.m. CT in the first game of the three-day Basketball Travelers Classic in the Maravich Center.
