Davis a preseason candidate for Wooden Award

LSU junior forward Glen Davis, last year's Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, was named one of the top 50 preseason candidates for the 2006-07 Wood Award All-American team.

The announcement came from the presiding Los Angeles Athletic Club after tallying the ballots of the national preseason selection committee.

Davis is the only preseason candidate who was honored last year as a member of the 2006 Wooden Award All-American team.

Candidates have been selected from 15 NCAA conferences, up from 11 last year. Conferences include the ACC (eight players), the Big 12 (eight), the Pac-10 (seven), the Big East (seven), the SEC (seven), the Big 10 (four), the Mountain West (two) and one player each from the Atlantic 10, Conference USA, WAC, Mid-Continent, the Sun Belt, the Horizon League, the Colonial Athletic Association and the Big Sky.

Also on the list from the SEC besides the LSU forward are Corey Brewer of Florida, Jermareo Davidson of Alabama, Al Horford of Florida, Chris Lofton of Tennessee, Joakim Noah of Florida and Ronald Steele of Alabama.

In January, the Wooden Award committee will release the midseason top-30 followed by the national ballot in early March. On Tuesday, March 27, the 10-player Wooden Award All-American team will be announced. The 2007 Award ceremony, which will include the presentation of the men and women's Wooden Award will be held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club on April 7, 2007.
