NOTEBOOK: LSU vs. Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Checking in on who did what in Saturday's 28-24 win at Tennessee.

Team Notes


1. LSU's game captains were 41 Chris Jackson, 72 Glenn Dorsey, 75 Brian Johnson and 94 Chase Pittman.


2. LSU won the toss and deferred to the second half. Tennessee received the opening kickoff.


a. LSU has won the toss in all nine games this season.


3. Tigers extending their consecutive starts streak today were: FS LaRon Landry (44), CB Chevis Jackson (22), DE Chase Pittman (15).


4. LSU has recorded at least one sack in 15 straight games after a first quarter sack by Glenn Dorsey in today's game. The last time LSU's defense did not record a sack was against North Texas last season.


5. LSU has outscored its opponents 101-7 in the first quarter this season. Florida is the only team to dent the scoreboard in the first quarter against LSU.



Individual Notes


6. WR Craig Davis pulled in a 15-yard reception in the first quarter to extend his consecutive games with a reception streak to 32.


a. Davis pulled in his third receiving touchdown of the season and sixth of his career with a 23-yard pass from JaMarcus Russell with 14:32 left in the second quarter.


7. WR Dwayne Bowe pulled in a 16-yard reception in the first quarter to extend his consecutive games with a reception streak to 21 straight games.


a. Bowe pulled in a 5-yard touchdown reception with 9:38 left in the third quarter. The TD was the 22nd of Bowe's career, moving the senior into sole possession of first-place on LSU's career receiving TD list. Bowe entered the game tied with Michael Clayton for the record.


8. QB JaMarcus Russell tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Craig Davis with 14:32 left in the second quarter and a 5-yard TD pass to Dwayne Bowe with 9:38 left  in the third quarter. The TD passes are the junior's 16th and 17th of the season and 40th and 41st of his career.


a. Russell's 41 career TD passes puts him in second-place on LSU's career TD passes list. He moved passed Herb Tyler.


b. Russell's 17 TD passes this season ranks him tied for sixth on LSU single-season passing TDs list.


c. Russell's 34-yard run late in the third quarter was the longest of his career. His previous long was a 22-yard run in 2005.


9. The duo of JaMarcus Russell and Dwayne Bowe have now connected on 19 TD passes and sit in second-place on LSU's career list for pass-catch TD combos. The pair trail record holders Tommy Hodson-Wendell Davis (21).


10. With four PATs today, PK Colt David has extended his consecutive successful PAT streak to 71 straight. The streak puts him into second place in school history in consecutive extra points made


a. David's four PATs today move the kicker up to seventh on LSU's career PATs made list with 80.  


11. With a tackle in the second quarter, FS LaRon Landry extended his tackles in consecutive games streak. The senior has now made a tackle in 48 straight games.


12. RB Keiland Williams scored the first rushing touchdown of his career with 2:57 left in the third quarter. The true freshman scampered seven yards for the score to give LSU a 21-17 lead.


13. LB Darry Beckwith grabbed his first career interception in the fourth quarter. LSU has had at least one INT in eight of its nine games this season.


14. WR Early Doucet's eight catches marked a career high single-game total. He previous best was fives catches which he had recorded on five separate occasions. He finished the day with 73 yards and a score.


a. Doucet's game-winning TD reception with 0:09 seconds to go in the fourth quarter marked his fifth touchdown reception of the season and 12th of his career.
