LSU trip solidfied things with Demetrius Byrd

LSU was already at the top of 5-star wide receiver Demetrius Byrd's list, but this weekend's trip for the Ole Miss game solidified the Tigers' position as his leader.

"It was just a great atmosphere and you can't ask for anything better," said Byrd. "I liked the town around the campus and I liked the fact that the stadium is right on campus. Tailgating was great and those fans were just crazy."

The past season for Pearl River Community College, Byrd racked up more than 700 yards receiving on 42 catches for six touchdowns. He said coaches were very animate about having him on the team for next year.

"Coach Les Miles called me into his office before the game and I got a chance to talk to him," said Byrd. "He told me they were going to need to fill some slots because guys were going to ‘the League' and that they wanted me to be that guy to come in and catch the ball for them."

Byrd says he is No. 1

Byrd said that this trip cleared things up in his mind as far was what LSU was all about.

"No doubt this trip puts them at the top," said Byrd. "They've always been my favorite. I just wanted to come down here and se the game day atmosphere. I can tell you, it was even better than what I thought it would be."

Byrd said he talked with many of the players and coaches before the game and was able to get comfortable. As for the game, Byrd said he enjoyed watching Dwayne Bowe.

"It was a nice finish," said Byrd. "Bowe pulled it out there in the end. Even if they would have lost, it wouldn't have changed my mind."

Byrd says he has no immediate plans for visiting any other schools at this point, choosing to focus more on the task at had right now.

The Pearl River Community College standout is scheduled to take his official visit to LSU in January and he may take some other visits but as of now he thinks he may only need one trip.

"I may visit a couple of schools but I think my visit to LSU may be the only one that I need to know where I want to go," he said. "If I do take any other visits then it could be to Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kansas State or maybe even Iowa State. I wouldn't visit them all but maybe one or two."
