LSU will be visiting Drake this week

College coaches are on the road making in-home visits to the top players on their board and one that will definitely be getting a visit from LSU running backs coach Larry Porter, with a possible tag along from Les Miles, is Ole Miss commitment Drake Nevis of Marrero-John Ehret.

"I know coach Porter is coming on Thursday and coach Miles may be coming too," said Drake Nevis.

The big 6-2, 290-pound 3-star defensive tackle is coming off a banner season that will likely bring in several post-season awards and even have some new coaches knocking on his front door.

In fact, Nevis has already taken home the All-Metro Defensive MVP award after he recorded 110 tackles, 35 tackles for losses, 11 sacks, 25 QB hurries, 8 forced fumbles, and 2 recovered fumbles.

Now that his season has concluded, Nevis is focusing on recruiting and he already had one coach stop by to pay him a visit.

"Coach Frank (Wilson/Ole Miss) was in here last night," Nevis said. "He was basically explaining how the terms of my scholarship work. He was telling us about the academic programs and how they work."

Nevis will take his first of three scheduled official visits this weekend when he trips to Ole Miss followed by LSU the following weekend. A trip to Auburn is on his itinerary for the first weekend in January with the possibility of also going to Clemson and Florida.

For the past few months, Nevis has maintained that he is committed to Ole Miss but that he is keeping his options open and still looking around.

Is that still the case?

"Yep, I'm still seeking," he said. "Whatever happens on my visits will help me to figure things out."

Nevis said that he has already looked at the depth chart at each school he is looking at and that he knows what each college offers academic-wise.

What he is looking for is to see which school can help fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL.

"I'm basically looking for a good program that will benefit me the most later on," he said. "Most colleges have a good education program but which one will help me the most in football."
