LSU in hot pursuit of 5-star WR Byrd

Five-star receiver Demetrius Byrd will be getting a visit from an LSU coach today and it will strengthen what is already a pretty solid lead the Tigers have over his other suitors.

"Coach Monken will be coming by in a little while to check in with me," Byrd said.

Byrd visited LSU unofficially when the Tigers defeated Ole Miss and he said he got a good feel for just how bad the staff wants him.

"They were telling me how they had a chance to have one of the best group of wide receivers they ever signed but they were counting on me and (Terrance) Toliver," Byrd said.

Byrd will make his official visit to LSU in January and he said that he is also considering trips to Tennessee, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Byrd said that Monken told him they could take five receivers in this class because some of the guys they already have commitments from have grade issues.

Does he think he will be in that group?

"I am leaning that way pretty good," said Byrd. "I am almost sure that is where I am going to go but I just want to take my visit before I commit. Coach Monken said that he would like to have me now but he will wait."
