Jones says "he's got a good feeling

"I've got a really good feeling about LSU," Chad Jones, a safety out of Southern Lab and Tiger Rag's top defensive player in Louisiana, said in an interview with Tiger Rag Wednesday when asked about his top schools.

It has previously been reported on that Jones has already made his decision for where he will continue his football career, though he will not announce until he has taken all of his visits.

Already receiving accolades following his junior season, Jones has continued to add to his appeal during his senior campaign, where he has grabbed eight interceptions and somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 tackles while leading Southern Lab to the semifinal round of the Class A playoffs, which will be played Friday. He has also scored 11 touchdowns on offense.

Among the schools still in the hunt for Jones are LSU, USC, Florida State, Florida and Miami, though the Tigers and the Trojans hold an edge over the other three.

What did Jones have to say about his top five?

USC- "I don't know a whole lot about them but I like their defense."

Florida State- "I grew up liking to watch them play on TV. I haven't talked to them in a while, but am going to try to pick it back up."

Florida- "I've liked talking to Florida's coaches. I like their physical style of football."

Miami- "They probably have the number one defense I'd like to play with. They are real physical and aggressive."

LSU- "I know them. I know all the coaches, a lot of the players, and the people they are recruiting. I've got a really good feeling about them."

All five of Jones' top schools have also given him the green light to be a two-sport collegiate athlete, as he is also a standout baseball prospect.

How does he feel about his two leaders and their programs on the diamond?

"USC has a lot of tradition and they play a lot of good baseball on the west coast," he said. "LSU has just as much tradition and at one time was the king of the hill in college baseball. They have a new coach now and I think he is going to get them back to Omaha and back to where they used to be."

With Jones having said he will not announce anything until after his visits, he will be one step closer later in December, with a visit to USC scheduled for December 15. The trip to California is the only official visit Jones has planned thus far, though he says more will be taken once this football season ends.

Living in Baton Rouge, Jones said he has been attending LSU's home games, where he has been able to talk to the Tiger coaching staff, with LSU Offensive Coordinator Jimbo Fisher has handled Jones' recruitment.

"I like talking to him," Jones said of coach Fisher. "I talk to him at all the home games, and he will call me sometimes. I talk to all of the coaches at the games, and coach Miles when I can. I feel like I have a real good relationship with their staff."

Jones added that he is expecting a home visit from the LSU coaches some time next week.

When asked about what he is looking for in a college, Jones said that he wants to go somewhere that is in a strong city.

"All of my top schools are losing safeties this year," He said. "Playing time isn't really an issue. I'm a city boy. The big deal is what is around the college. I can't live in the middle of nowhere."
