Brooks has a final four

The LSU staff is zeroing in on a handful of prospects to fill the remaining slots in the 2007 class and one that is getting the full-court press from the Tiger coaches is 4-star wide receiver Ron Brooks.

Ron Brooks, a 5-11, 170-pounder with 4.5 speed, is versatile enough to play several positions at the next level but he is looking to find a home at wide out.

As a senior, the U.S. Army All-America selection spent the majority of his time under center for Irving (Texas) MacArthur and finished with more than 2,260 yards of total offense and accounted for 30 touchdowns.

LSU head coach Les Miles and wide receivers coach Todd Monken made an in-home visit to Brooks last Thursday and spent a little more than two hours visiting with the nation's No. 7 ranked wide receiver.

"They came by and visited with me and my parents," Brooks said. "They answered a lot of questions that my parents had and reiterated how bad they wanted me and how highly they thought of me."

Brooks said that LSU is one of four schools that have made his final cut along with Florida, Arkansas and Texas Tech.

What was it that made his narrow things down to those four?

"This year all of them had good seasons," Brooks said.

Florida – "They're playing for a national championship."

Arkansas – "They had a very good year this year and I think they are on track to play for a national championship soon."

Texas Tech – "As a receiver, you want to play in an offense like that and they love to pass the ball a lot."

LSU – "This year they played really well on offense and defensively as well. They have a couple of receivers leaving and they're also losing some people on defense too."

Brooks will take his official visit to LSU on Jan. 19 and that he will be his final official visit.

After that trip, he hopes to make a decision so that he can put recruiting behind him.

"I think I will be ready to decide right after my visit to LSU," he said. "I should be ready to go because I am pretty familiar with all of the schools recruiting me and LSU is the only one I hadn't visited."
