Seven former Tigers vying for Super Bowl trip

Seven former LSU football standouts will be vying for a spot in the Super Bowl this weekend when the NFC and AFC Championship games are held in Indianapolis and Chicago on Sunday.

The Patriots-Colts game in Indianapolis will feature six former Tigers, while Devery Henderson will be the lone LSU representative in the Saints-Bears game in Chicago.

The winner of the Patriots-Colts contest will meet the Saints-Bears winner in Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4 in Miami.

New England's roster features the most former Tigers as LSU has four players on the Patriots active roster, while Randall Gay is on injured reserve. Kevin Faulk will go after his fourth Super Bowl appearance on Sunday as he continues to be a key component for the Patriots offense and special teams.

Last week against San Diego, Faulk's two-point conversion tied the contest at 21-21 with 4:36 left in the game before the Patriots kicked the game-winning field goal with just over a minute remaining.

For the year, Faulk rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown and he accounted for 43 catches for 356 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Faulk also ranked among the league leaders in both kickoff returns and punt returns. He returned 17 kickoffs for 364 yards and he had 31 punt returns for 330 yards.

Patriot defensive end Jarvis Green has recorded 33 tackles this year and he ranks second on the team with 7.5 sacks, while linebacker and special teams standout Eric Alexander has 14 tackles this year for New England.

On the other side of the field, the Colts feature rookie sensation Joseph Addai and former LSU All-America Anthony McFarland. Addai is a finalist for NFL Rookie of the Year after rushing for 1,081 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season for the Colts. Addai opened the playoffs in style, going for 122 yards and a score in the Colts' first round win over Kansas City.

McFarland, who was traded to Indianapolis from Tampa Bay back in October, is a starter on the defensive line for the Colts. He has 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks to his credit this season.

In the Saints-Bears matchup, former Tiger Henderson will look to continue his breakout season. Henderson, who was a member of LSU's national title team in 2003, caught a career-best 32 passes for 745 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season this year. Last week in the win over the Eagles, Henderson caught a 35-yard pass in the second quarter to setup a field goal.
