The Rummel lineman stands 6-5, 285 pounds and benches 300 pounds and squats 400 pounds. He has earned all-Districts honors from WWL and the Times Picayune as well as All-East Jefferson, all-metro and received Max Preps honorable mention as an All-American.
Lonergan said he was excited to receive a letter from LSU earlier in the season inviting him to watch the LSU Alabama game.
"It was pretty sweet," said Lonergan. "I had been to Tiger Stadium before; my dad (Pat) used to play for them actually, but it felt good to get invited to the game. It was and insanely big stadium. The fans were going crazy. I know a lot of Tiger fans; I mean, I am one."
Lonergan said that he has obviously been a fan of LSU throughout his childhood and that he likes the coaches in place at LSU.
"I really like coach Les Miles," said Lonergan. "I think he's done such a good job of winning and maintaining the great tradition."
Lonergan said it is too early in the game at this point to have a favorite, or even a team he liked but did have good things to say about his father's alma mater.
"They are a real good team and it would be a great place to go to school," he said. "I definitely think highly of them and like them."
Academics will likely play a factor in Lonergan's decision as he said he had a 3.5 GPA last term and has a core GPA of 3.3. He said he has an interest in dental school and has not yet taken the ACT.
Note: P.J. Lonergan said he plans on attending camps this summer but does not know which ones will be at the top of his list.
