Clement describes it as awesome

Chase Clement, a defensive end/tight end out of E.D. White, is one of the top defensive linemen in the south for 2008, and he says he has an early leader for where he wants to play ball at the college level.

"LSU is where I'm the most interested right now," Clement told Tiger Rag. "I'm also looking at Ole Miss, Tulane, Florida, Alabama and Oklahoma, but right now, LSU is way up there."

Clement, who claims offers from all of his favorites spent Saturday touring the LSU campus during the school's junior day, and described the experience as "awesome."

"When we got to LSU," he said. "They already knew my family, and treated us real well. I got to go straight to coach Miles' office and talk to him for a while and ask some questions."

What did Miles have to say to the big 6-5, 240-pounder?

"Coach told me how much LSU is interested in using me at defensive end, and that he said I was the perfect size and athleticism he is looking for," Clement explained. "He told me that I might not start but I would be getting playing time my first year."

Early time on the field is something Clement weighs heavily in his search for a college, along with a good academic program. He said that LSU scored points in both areas this weekend.

"[Before Junior Day,] I had never seen some of their buildings," Clement said. "I was impressed with the Cox Communication building and their academic program.  I saw how the tutoring was set up and everything. It's top of the line stuff."

Interest in the LSU program is nothing new for the standout lineman, who says he's been a Tiger fan his whole life and described his family as "die hard LSU fans."

"My uncle (Eric Andolsek) played ball at LSU," he said. "My whole family wants me to choose LSU but they are going to support me wherever I go."

When making that decision, Clement's options won't be limited, as he says he gets an average of 30 text messages per day from coaches throughout the country.

"I've gotten stuff from a bunch of places," he said. "I don't have any other trips or junior days lined up, but I know there are coaches trying to get me to come out and watch spring practices."

All of the attention Clement has attracted is well-deserved and although LSU appears to be sitting in the driver's seat it may be a little time before he is ready to make a decision.

"I think he is going to wait and see and probably take some visits this summer before he is ready to anything," said E.D. White head coach Kyle Lasseigne. "He wants to go to a camp at Ole Miss and LSU and maybe visit a couple of other places this summer and I don't think he will decide anything before then."
