Beachum in contact with the Tigers

Brandon Beachum, a 6-1, 220 pound linebacker with 4.6 speed out of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, has gotten interest from colleges throughout the country this spring, with LSU sitting high up on the list.

"LSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska and West Virginia have all offered me scholarships" Brandon Beachum said. "Those are the biggest ones I've received, but hopefully I will be getting others from big schools. All together, I have 16 offers so far."

Beachum said that he is still looking at all of the schools that have offered equally, and that he will begin to narrow down the list in May when he gets a more realistic picture of who is really interested.

One school he is certain will make the list, though, is Les Miles' LSU Tigers.

"I text message with coach Miles a good bit," he said. "I actually called him up and talked to him about two days ago. We talk some about the LSU family, academics, and how they can help me grow as a player.

"He said he likes my speed and the way I get to the ball, and that I have the potential to get better. I thought that was a great compliment towards my game. I also talk to coach (Bo) Pelini some. He's from this area. They have some great coaches. They're real easy going and have been great to talk to."

Beachum said he finds LSU's style of defense attractive because he feels it would be a good fit for his style of play.

"They're very physical and very fast," he told Tiger Rag. "That's my type of defense right there."

In addition to LSU, Beachum says he has also been talking some with coaches from Nebraska and West Virginia. He has not been able to visit any schools or attend junior days because they all conflicted with his school basketball schedule.

"I've had a couple of opportunities to visit schools, but they all conflicted with basketball," he said. "The only thing I'm really confident about this summer is that I'm going to the Nike camp, and maybe some senior day camps. As far as unofficial visits; I don't have any set."

Whichever school Beachum decides upon; he says he has intentions of enrolling in January of 2008 in order to get a jump on the competition.

"I'd like to be able to play early on," he said. "That's one reason I want to get in school early. Other than that, I'm just looking for a school that can mold me and a program that I'd fit into well."
