Tolliver is a hot commodity

LSU may have already inked one standout receiver named Tolliver in the 2007 class, but there is another one on the horizon, Rayville's Chris Tolliver.

Chris Tolliver, a 6-2, 185-pounder with 4.4 speed has a nice combination of size and speed that make him a hard target to cover on the field.

Last season, the top-flight wide out led the state in receiving with 72 catches for more than 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. Those gaudy numbers were good enough to land a spot on the Class 3A First Team All-State squad and to make him one of the hottest receivers in the South for 2008.

So far Tolliver has received five offers from LSU, Florida, Alabama, Nebraska and Colorado with his offer from LSU coming last week.

"I called coach Miles and he told me he wanted me to be an LSU Tiger and that I had a full scholarship offer available," said Tolliver. "He said he liked my highlight video and that he thought I'd be able to make a difference at LSU."

Tolliver did not attend LSU's spring game last week because he was at a track meet. He did say that he went to LSU's camp last summer but that he doesn't know what camps he will be attending this summer.

"That is going to be something my coach and I will have to sit down and discuss," said Tolliver. "There are a lot of options out there right now and I just want to take my time. Right now I like all the schools the same. I like the shotgun formation that LSU and Florida runs. I think that spreads the field out more and gives receivers more opportunities to make big plays."

Rayville has had players from two previous years commit to LSU and Tolliver said that may be a factor in his decision.

"It might have something to do with it, but right now every school is pretty much even," he said. "I like LSU because I like the atmosphere and after talking with the coaches and getting to know them, I feel like they are a good staff. I like the school itself as well but in the end it will come down to where I feel the most comfortable."

Note** Tolliver is taking practice ACT's right now, and plans to take the real thing on April 14. He said he currently holds a 2.5 GPA.
