Demetrius Byrd is ready to move on

Demetrius Byrd was one of LSU's biggest prizes in the 2007 class and he will be counted on to make an immediate impact in the Tigers' receiving corps.

"Things are going great right now," said Byrd. "I'm ready to get to Baton Rouge. I'm coming sometime in June and I'm very excited about coming."

The 6-2, 200 pound wide out made it to the LSU spring game last Saturday and said it was hard for him to stay in the sidelines.

"I really wanted to go out there and play," said Demetrius Byrd. "I was ready to suit up and jump out there."

Byrd was recruited by former LSU receivers coach Todd Monken but he said he spoke with his new position coach last night and that they talked about grades.

"Coach Mac (D.J. McCarthy) told me that I needed to make all C's to be okay and right now I have B's and C's," said Byrd. "Everything is going great with school right now and I should be fine. The coaches have done a great job of staying in touch with me and I talk to them almost every day."

Byrd said he also has been given a work out schedule and that he is following it regularly.

"I got a drill tape that I have been going over so I'll know what I need to do when I get to camp," said Byrd. "I haven't gotten a play book but I will probably ask for one soon. I also have a work out book and I've been running."

Most of all, Byrd said he is excited to be playing for the Tigers.

"It's just a great program," he said. "The coaches and everything are awesome."
