Waggner is one of Louisiana's best

One of Louisiana's top cornerbacks is Clinton's Prentiss Waggner and he recently took home some top honors this past weekend in Georgia.

"I went to a Nike Camp (Athens) over the weekend and was the MVP for the defensive backs," Waggner said. "That felt good because it showed me that I can hold my own against some of the top receivers around."

Waggner (6-2, 175, 4.5) definitely passes the eye test with his frame and he picked up some valuable lessons on how he can use that size to his advantage.

"They were singling me out and instructing me on how I can get better," said Waggner. "I'm a tall corner and they don't have many tall corners so they were teaching me how to press a little bit better with one hand instead of two."

To date, Waggner has picked up only one offer from Minnesota but he is getting some strong interest from a pretty strong contingent of SEC schools.

"Auburn, Ole Miss and LSU are recruiting me the hardest but I'm also hearing a lot from Tennessee, Florida and Arkansas," he said.

Spring practice will get underway today and several coaches are scheduled to make a pit stop in the small town of Clinton.

"Coach (Greg) Knox at Auburn was supposed to come on Monday but we didn't have school and coach Norton from Ole Miss is supposed to be coming too along with coach (Gary) Crowton from LSU," Waggner said.

With one offer and interest beginning to mount for the standout corner, Waggner said that he is keeping the recruiting process wide open but keeping a watchful eye on six schools.

"No schools standout for me right now and I'm wide open," he said. "I am keeping a close eye on Minnesota, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss and Georgia."

(Jr. Stats/Honors)** 16 INTs, 14 PBUs & 70 tackles/31 catches for 795 yards and 13 TDs/Class 2A Defensive MVP
