P.J. Smith picks up new offers

One of the luxuries of playing football at John Curtis Christian in River Ridge (La.) is the enormous amount of exposure players get.

The Patriots are a football factory for turning out college prospects and P.J. Smith (6-4, 190, 4.6) will help keep the tradition going in 2008.

Smith had been sitting with a pair of offers from Alabama and Tulane but recently several other schools have joined the sweepstakes.

"Since last time we talked I got offered by LSU, Arizona State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Tulane," said Smith. "I think Florida has offered too. Coach J.T. (Curtis) said that I have one but he hadn't given me all of the details yet. There are like three more too but I just can't think of them right now."

Out of all of the schools in pursuit of Smith which ones seem to be after him the hardest?

"LSU, Alabama and Florida," he said.

John Curtis started spring practice on Monday and there has already been a few coaches observing from the sideline.

"West Virginia, Alabama and Tulane came by then there were two coaches there today (Tuesday) but I couldn't see their shirt to see what school they were from and I couldn't talk to them," Smith said. "I know some more coaches are coming by on Thursday."

Despite the recent offers and the horde of coaches that will be stopping by school over the next couple of weeks Smith said that he has two things that he is focused on and recruiting is not one of them at this point.

"I'm not really worrying about recruiting right now," he said. "I'm trying to get through this school year and take care of my grades, and do good in football this spring. That's where my focus is right now."

Something else Smith has not given a whole lot of thought to is what camps he will attend this summer but he knows of one fur sure.

"I know we are going to Alabama for sure because one of our coaches is bringing us there," said Smith. "I haven't really thought about the other ones."
