LSU is a solid No. 1

"As soon as JaMarcus Russell was drafted, coach (Bradley Dale) Peveto called me and said, ‘Do you want to be him? Then come to LSU,'" said Darron Thomas.

The 6-3, 203-pound signal caller out of Aldine High School in Texas recorded 1,500 passing yards and 700 rushing yards last season. He hit pay dirt 21 times total, either throwing or running and earned first team all-district.

Thomas has 14 offers, but said LSU is his No. 1 team.

"Coach Miles and everyone else there know that LSU is my number one school," said Thomas. "Some other schools who are up there are USC and Florida. Florida hasn't offered me yet, but they are telling me they will soon."

Peveto is recruiting Thomas, but the standout quarterback said he was surprised when the whole staff showed up at a recent spring practice.

"It was shocking that they all showed up," said Thomas. "To have the whole staff and coach Miles there was great. I even had a pretty good practice."

Thomas also has a teammate, Daniel Campbell, who LSU is interested in.

"I don't really know what he's thinking right now," said Thomas. "I know last we talked he had LSU, USC and Florida as his top teams. We've talked about going to the same school. In fact we both planned on going to LSU, and then USC and Florida popped into the picture."

Thomas said he plans on committing after the summer, before the season starts.

"It won't be a late commitment for sure," he said. "I haven't committed yet because I'm just not ready to do it yet.  I want to take a couple of visits during the summer and go to some camps."

Note** Darron Thomas claims a 3.4 GPA and said he scored high enough on his SAT to get into any college.
