Dean named Freshman All-American

LSU outfielder Blake Dean was named Wednesday to the 2007 Freshmen All-America team by Collegiate Baseball magazine.

Dean, a native of Crestview, Fla., was LSU's leader in batting average (.316), RBI (46), hits (65), doubles (12), triples (3), home runs (7) and total bases (104). He earned 2007 Freshmen All-SEC recognition from the league coaches.

Dean was named SEC Freshman of the Week on May 7 after hitting .333 (7-for-21) in five games with one homer, five RBI and two runs scored. He was also named SEC Freshman of the Week April 16 after batting .529 (9-for-17) on the week with two doubles, one triple, one homer, four RBI and four runs.

Dean posted a team-best 20-game hitting streak from March 17-April 20.

LSU has had at least one player earn Freshmen All-America honors in seven of the past eight seasons.

The Tigers have also produced four National Freshmen of the Year since 1992 – second baseman Todd Walker (1992), pitcher Brett Laxton (1993), second baseman Mike Fontenot (2000) and pitcher Lane Mestepey (2001).
