Augustus named WNBA All-Star reserve

Seimone Augustus, former LSU women's basketball All-American, is among the WNBA's All-Star Western Conference reserves announced Monday, earning the honor for the second straight season.

Augustus, the reigning rookie of the year with Minnesota Lynx, is averaging 22.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 2007. Her 22.3 points per game ranks second in the WNBA this season behind Seattle's Lauren Jackson (22.6).

The All-Star Game, the eighth in league history, will be held on Sunday, July 15 in Washington, D.C. and will be televised nationally on ABC at 2:30 p.m. CDT.

Joining Augustus as reserves for the Western Conference at Sunday's game in Washington: Phoenix's Cappie Pondexter, Sacramento forward Rebekkah Brunson, Los Angeles center Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Mercury forward Penny Taylor and Houston forward Tina Thompson.

The Western Conference starters are Phoenix' Diana Taurasi, Seattle's Lauren Jackson, Sacramento's Yolanda Griffin, Seattle's Sue Bird and San Antonio's Becky Hammon.

Augustus was the Western Conference's top scorer with 16 points in the 2006 WNBA All-Star Game, held July 12 in New York.

The Baton Rouge native also claimed the 2006 All-Star Dribble, Dish and Swish Challenge at Madison Square Garden.
