Edwards still weighing options

Lavar Edwards (6-3, 284, 4.8) has seen his stock take off over the past couple of months but the big man from Desire Street Academy in Baton Rouge says he is still not close to making a decision.

"I've been on the road a lot lately," said Edwards. "I just got back from the Florida Friday Night Lights camp as well as an Alabama camp. I'm just trying to take it all in before I decide."

Did the trips change his favorites?

"While I was at the Florida camp, they offered me a scholarship", informed Edwards. "I really liked the camp. Watching the video from mid-field was nice. So now, I am adding Florida to my previous top 3 which was LSU, Tennessee, and Alabama.

"The Alabama camp was nice too," explained Edwards. "I felt like I learned a lot from that camp. Coach Saban really worked us hard."

Did his recent camp visits change anything with LSU?

"No, I am still really interested in LSU," Edwards answered. "In fact, I just spoke with coach [Larry] Porter last week. I've gotten good vibes from LSU. I made an unofficial visit there not too long ago and I liked the campus.

"I thought they had really nice facilities. Plus, not only is it an in-state school, but it was also my favorite team when I was growing up. If I would choose LSU, my family would be able to come watch my games because it would be so close to home and that would be nice."

When will he make his announcement?

"I think I am going to wait until after my high school football season to decide where I am going," Edwards informed. "I want to really think things through before I make a commitment."

Where does Edwards see himself playing at the next level?

"Honestly, I'd rather play tight end, but if I can get playing time at defensive end and that is where a team needs me to play, then I'll play defensive end. I have no problem with that. I'm a big guy if you look at my size, but I am very athletic.

"I feel like I can move around better than most other guys who are my size. However, I think some teams may think I out grew the tight end position and that is fine. I just want to get on the field."
