Mississippi RB Likes LSU

Tigerrag.com recently caught up with perhaps the best running back in the state of Mississippi who also happens to be someone the LSU staff is very interested in.

Desmond Johnson ( 6'0, 184, 4.5) from Yazoo City High School last year earned one of the highest achievements in the state last season. He was named to the Clarion Ledgers Dandy Dozen list while rushing for 2,509 yards and 33 touchdowns.

"Right now I am at Vicksburg High School in Mississippi because I am about to take pictures for the Clarion Ledger," said Johnson. "Actually everyone that was named to the Dandy Dozen list is here. After we leave here, we are going to take some more pictures at the Mississippi welcome center."

That was not the only good news Johnson had recently received.

"I just heard from Troy and they offered me a scholarship," Johnson informed.

Is that a threat to his current offer from LSU?

"I am not too interested in Troy because when I received the offer, I didn't even know where the school was located," Johnson said jokingly.

So where does Johnson stand with the Tigers?

"I am really interested in LSU," Johnson explained. "I receive stuff from them in the mail just about everyday, but I haven't spoken to any of the LSU coaches in quite some time. For that matter, I've never been to the campus. I'd like to visit LSU before I decide, so I am going to make an official visit there during this season. I have an uncle that lives close to LSU so I'll probably go stay with him and then make a trip to check out the campus."

What sparks his interest in the Tigers?

"I've seen them play on TV before so I know they have a good football team and I also like the way they use their running backs," said Johnson

Anyone else in the mix for his signature?

"I just got back from an Alabama camp last night," Johnson said. "It was a good camp. I was hoping to maybe receive an offer, but I didn't hear anything. Coach Saban really worked us hard. We had to do up-downs, push-ups, and sprints from sideline to sideline before we could even get started with the camp."

So when does Johnson plan on announcing?

"I think I am going to wait it out," Johnson informed. "I want to finish my senior season before I decide."

What separates Johnson from the other backs?

"Some guys are power runners and others have good agility," said Johnson. "Well I have the ability to do both. I can run people over or juke them. I can do whatever it takes to keep the offense moving."
