LSU/Miami Battle? spoke with hard-hitting safety Karnell Hatcher (6-2, 190, 4.6) a while back and recently we had the chance to chat with the talented Florida product again.

Karnell Hatcher Profile

It was previously reported that Hatcher was not going to make the trip to Baton Rouge for the LSU camp, but things were straightened out and Hatcher made it to Tiger Country after all.

"It was only my second time flying so my mom really didn't want me to have to switch flights in different cities," said Hatcher. "Personally I hate flying, but I guess it is something you have to get accustomed to."

So how did the trip to LSU turn out?

"I really enjoyed the LSU camp," Hatcher informed. "I thought the campus was nice and the camp was pretty good as well. I stay in touch with coach McCarthy pretty often, but at the camp I had the opportunity to speak with coach [Bo] Pelini and coach [Josh] Henson.

"After the camp was over I spoke to them one on one and they seemed to be real cool. Coach Henson did a pretty good job of trying to convince me that LSU was the place for me, but I am still going to wait until February to decide."

Was anyone else promoting the purple and gold?

"I met Rocky Duplessis (LSU verbal commit) at the camp and a few other players," Hatcher said. "Rocky was pushing LSU on me pretty hard, Hatcher said jokingly. All of the guys there were pretty cool though. It was pretty impressive."

The 4-star safety also just returned from visiting with Miami and it was rumored that he was all but a Hurricane but that does not appear be the case now.

"My visit to Miami went smooth," Hatcher informed. "The thing I really like about Miami is the student ratio. For example, at some schools you might have close to 100 kids in a class room, but at Miami the classes are smaller with less students.

"At Miami there might be only 25 students in a class which allows the students to build better relationships with the professors and that is something that is important to me. While I was there, the coaches also went over the roster with me. If I would choose Miami it looks like I'd have a good shot at some early playing time."

In Hatcher's previous interview with, the nation's 12th ranked safety had mentioned Alabama was also in the mix for his signature.

Is that still the case?

"I was really interested in Alabama," Hatcher stated. "However, I haven't heard from them in a while so I do not really know anymore."

Hatcher claims national signing day is still the date he has set for himself as far as making a decision. What are his plans until then?

"Today was the first day of two-a-days," Hatcher informed. "It was a tough practice, but I got through it. I am going to focus on my team and this upcoming season and I also plan on making a one game trip to LSU and Miami to get a feel for their game day atmospheres."
