Is Johnson a Possibility?

LSU would like to sign at least one running back in the 2008 class and Desmond Johnson of Yazoo City (Miss.) is someone on the Tigers' radar as a possible sign and place candidate.

In a lifetime, people come across obstacles that prevent them from advancing to the next stage in their life. For one Mississippi product, it is not his play on the field that is an obstacle, but instead maybe his focus in the classroom.

Mississippi's second team All-State running back, Desmond Johnson (6-0, 184, 4.5) has all the tools needed to make it to the next level, but it will be on him to elevate his play in the classroom in order to receive some more looks from various schools.

"I still have only two offers (LSU and Troy St.)," Johnson stated. "I really like LSU's team and school. I like the players they have on their roster as well as their style of play on the field."

The Mississippi Delta Player of the Year has not yet made a trip to Baton Rouge but has intentions of doing so sooner rather than later.

"I'd really like to check out LSU for a game," Johnson said. "I'd like to be able to take in the atmosphere of a game in person and also see what the school is all about. I'm going to try to get in touch with the coaches to maybe set up an official visit."

When will Johnson make his college choice?

"This Friday is my team's jamboree and then next week is our first real game of the season," Johnson explained. "I'm ready for the season to start and I am hoping we can bring home a championship this year.

"I am going to try to keep working hard on the field and improve in the classroom to hopefully pick up a few more offers so I can see all that's out there, but I already know for sure I really like LSU. So probably around mid to late season is when I'll decide."

Note: Last season, Johnson rushed for 2,509 yards and 33 touchdowns.
