Tigers back to work on Monday

For most people, Labor Day is a day off of work and a day of rest.

For the LSU Tigers, Labor Day is no different from any other day as the team was back on the practice fields in full pads this afternoon preparing for this weekend's showdown with Virginia Tech.

The Tigers seemed to escape the game against Mississippi State last Thursday with no major injuries, and for the short time we were allowed at practice today there were no players missing that I observed. Jacob Cutrera was in his defensive purple jersey but still had the large brace on his right arm. He did get in the game Thursday with the brace on so obviously it will not hinder him from playing.

Will Arnold was at practice this afternoon but did not participate in drills in the time I watched the offensive line. Instead he stood off to the side with his helmet off.

Ricky Jean-Francois was at practice today in his defensive purple jersey but did not appear to be participating in drills. He also went off with the scout team defensive line when they prepared to go face the offense.

Several players donned "Tiger Club" on the back of their jerseys as a reward for their performance in last Thursday's game. A few of the players that were given the "Tiger Club" honor were Matt Flynn, Ryan Perrilloux, Keiland Williams, Charles Scott, Richard Murphy, Herman Johnson, Tyson Jackson, and Tremaine Johnson. Please note that there were more players honored than this but I did not get to see all of them.

The receivers and quarterbacks were working on various deep routes, particularly streaks and posts. They had a tough time hooking up on a lot of the reps as there were quite a few overthrows. Trindon Holliday dropped a perfectly thrown ball that hit him right in stride.

After working with the receivers, the quarterbacks and running backs got together and worked on running option and read plays out of the shotgun.

Towards the end of the last period, the offensive line and defensive line got together and it looked like they were going go against each other in drills, but the period ended, and the media had to leave before they started.

That's all for today's practice, check back tomorrow afternoon for a report on tomorrow's practice.
