"The film was as I expected. There were some really strong performances. The coaches did a magnificent job in the game plan. We knew how to attack them on offense, defense and special teams. There is still a lot of improvement that is needed whether you see it or not in the stands. There are some things we really need to accomplish. We still need to make some improvement in the blocking on the offensive line, in the backfield and the wide receivers. If we do that on the offensive side, we will be much better. Special teams, the return game is something we should be better at and we will. There were some miss tackles and some things we need to improve on the defensive side. If we stay with the task at hand, we will be ready for Middle Tennessee."
On the injuries …
"It doesn't appear anybody will be
shy for game time (against Middle Tennessee). There are some guys that are
nicked. We are looking at him (Matt Flynn). I think he can play. We will take
some time and let him relax and bring him back on Tuesday and see how it goes.
Normally, Monday is a light day anyway."
On celebrating the win …
"I don't think anybody didn't enjoy it. I told them very
honestly that was an accomplishment. Victory was big. There was no lack of
reward. It is Game 2. Did we improve? You bet you. Our team enjoyed playing the
game. The honesty of the evening is that we played well. The truth for the
future is we must improve. We have a lot of work to do. I don't want to talk
about that eventuality. It is the improvement and staying the course. If we can
do those things, it is really going to be a great season. We take it one game at
a time. We need to understand that we have not arrived. We are on course."
On the polls …
"I didn't see the polls. I didn't read the (news)paper this
morning. I got my polls by watching that film. I know what we have to do. I
appreciate the position that the team is in, and I am sure they do as well. We
like where we are at."
On the Middle Tennessee-Louisville game …
"Those are two very, very good offenses. We are going to have to prepare. You look at a team that can put points up like Middle Tennessee against a quality football team, one that has been a quality football team for a long time. We better be ready to play."
On Matt Flynn's leadership...
"Our football team really respects him. They watched him compete. He competed while he prepared to play and did not start. This team saw how he prepared, how he competed, what kind of player he would be and what kind of team player he is. His opportunity has come. This team enjoyed that. They've watched him lead during the spring. They've watched him lead during the summer. They have rallied around him. Everybody enjoys our leadership at the quarterback spot. He's just what this team needs."
On Ryan Perrilloux's role …
"He played every quarter. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play in a mixed bag of things throughout."
On being dominant against Virginia Tech's defense and special teams …
"We don't expect our kicks to be blocked, not field goals, not punts."
