The hot topic surrounding the team since Saturday's game has been player injuries, particularly Matt Flynn and Early Doucet. While Flynn was back at practice today, Doucet was noticeably absent from wide receiver drills. Will Arnold, who also did not play in Saturday's game, was also absent from today's practice. These were the only two absences I noticed, and everyone else was practicing at full strength.
The members of this week's Tiger Club are listed below:
Ryan Perrilloux, Keiland Williams, Quinn Johnson, Charles Scott, Richard Murphy, Brett Helms, Lyle Hitt, Ciron Black, Herman Johnson, Joseph Barksdale. Ryan Miller, Robert Smith, Carnell Stewart, Max Holmes, Tyson Jackson, Glen Dorsey, Marlon Favorite, Pep Levingston, Kirston Pittman, Rahim Alem, Al Woods, Charles Alexander, Kelvin Sheppard, Ali Highsmith, Jeremy Benton, Jacob Cutrera, Perry Riley, Darry Beckwith, Harry Coleman, Danny McCray, Chris Hawkins, Curtis Taylor, Chevis Jackson, Richard Dickson, JD Lott, Mit Cole, Keith Zinger, Brandon LaFell, Jared Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Terrance Toliver, Demetrius Byrd, Ricky Dixon, RJ Jackson, Trindon Holliday, Josh McManus.
As I said, Matt Flynn was back practicing today at full strength for the most part. In fact he seemed to be taking extra reps in passing drills. Both of his ankles were heavily taped. To me that is a sign that he is going to play this week and they are going to tape both of his ankles to keep defenders from targeting the bad one, and they want him to go through practice all week with the ankles taped so he is used to it by Saturday. The only time I saw Flynn not participating in drills was as we were leaving practice. The offense was running the option against the scout team, and Flynn stood off on the side with his helmet off and watched as Perrilloux ran with the first team and Andrew Hatch ran with the second team. Speaking of Hatch, today was the first day I noticed him working as the No. 3 quarterback ahead of Jarrett Lee, who the coaches are trying to redshirt.
The wide receivers spent a lot of time today working on blocking and breaking down to keep the defenders in front of them.
The defensive backs were working on their nickel packages again, with Danny McCray and Chad Jones as the nickel backs. Craig Steltz practiced in front of the media for the first time in over a week today. He didn't show any signs of being affected by his injured toe, but I did notice he was wearing turf shoes instead of cleats. I guess the turf shoes have a little more room in them and put less pressure on the injury.
Despite reports of him being arrested again yesterday, linebacker Derrick Odom was at practice participating fully.
Former Tiger Brian Johnson was at practice today observing offensive line drills.
