Hatcher Opens Things Up

A while back Scout.com's 13th ranked safety, Karnell Hatcher (6'2, 190, 4.6) informed TigerRag.com that the race for his signature was pretty much between Miami and LSU. Now, the 4-star Delray Beach (Fla.) product has a different story.

Karnell Hatcher Profile

The dynamic Atlantic High School safety said things are going OK for him and his team so far this season as his team is 1-1 on the year. Aside from the field and the classroom, Hatcher said he also watches a little college football.

"I watched both of the LSU games. LSU looked good. I'm not surprised that they are 3-0, but I was surprised at how bad they beat Virginia Tech. I was expecting that game, well to be a game," Hatcher said while laughing.

The standout safety said he has been speaking to a few teams but contact has been minimal due to his hectic schedule.

"I can not remember the last time I spoke with any of the LSU coaches," Hatcher said. "I think someone from LSU did speak to either my mom or my dad a few days ago though and they are coming down this Friday."

Hatcher recently returned from an official visit and said he has a few more he intends on making, but there are no guarantees.

"I went to Michigan this past weekend," he explained. "I thought the campus was nice. The weather was different. Over here it was like 90 degrees, but when I was there it felt like it was in the 30's. It wasn't too bad though."

As for the rest of his official visits there are four schools in the hunt.

"I really do not have anymore officials set up at the moment," Hatcher added. "I would like to check out LSU, South Carolina, West Virginia and Oklahoma. However if I would visit those schools, it probably would not be for a game. It would be more to check out the city and the surrounding area because that is what I am really putting into my decision aside from the football program. If I am going to be living somewhere for four years, I want to make sure I feel comfortable there."

Note: As a junior, Hatcher recorded 65 tackles and 1 interception. He says he maintained a 3.1 GPA last school year and scored a 1050 on the SAT which he plans on retaking.
