Tuesday Afternoon Practice Report

The Tigers were inside on Tuesday preparing for Saturday's game against Tulane as rain continued to threaten the area around campus.

There were three very notable absences from today's practice as Ali Highsmith, Marlon Favorite, and Brett Helms were all missing from drills while the media was allowed in practice for the first three periods. Jared Mitchell and Keiland Williams were practicing in green non-contact jerseys.

The following players are members of this week's Tiger Club:

Matt Flynn, Charles Scott, Richard Murphy, Jacob Hester, Brandon Lafell, Jared Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Trindon Holliday, RJ Jackson, Mit Cole, Richard Dickson, Keith Zinger, Ciron Black, Herman Johnson, Ryan Miller, Lyle Hitt, Carnell Stewart, Kirston Pittman, Tyson Jackson, Rahim Alem, Pep Levingston, Glenn Dorsey, Al Woods, Darry Beckwith, Jacob Cutrera, Kelvin Sheppard, Chevis Jackson, Jonathan Zenon, Danny McCray, Curtis Taylor, Harry Coleman, Colt David

With Helms missing from practice, Ryan Miller was taking snaps as the first team center. I also found it interesting that Robert Smith was rotating in with the first team. He would come in at left guard, Herman Johnson would move over to right guard, and Lyle Hitt would sit out.

Kelvin Sheppard assumed Ali Highsmith's usual outside linebacker position.

The defensive line never lined up as a 4 man unit while I watched them, but it would seem logical that Al Woods would be the one to take Favorite's spot as the other defensive tackle alongside Glen Dorsey. However, Woods is typically Dorsey's backup, so that may not be the case.

Both Keiland Williams and Jared Mitchell looked to be moving fine and pain free, so I'm not sure why they were in non-contact jerseys.

Perhaps the most encouraging thing from today's practice was seeing Early Doucet doing some light running in the endzone. He started off jogging back and forth from sideline to sideline in the endzone under the watchful eye of the training staff. After that he went to the ‘S' in the endzone and traced around it doing high knees.

The quarterbacks and wide receivers were having a tough time hooking up today in warm-ups, especially on deep fly patterns. All of the quarterbacks seemed to be overthrowing the receivers.

There were numerous NFL scouts at today's practice. Some teams that had representatives there were the Giants, Jaguars, Browns, Buccaneers, 49ers, Texans, Cowboys, Steelers, and Bears.

That's all for today's practice. We'll be back after tomorrow's workout with another report.
