Lady Tigers as high as No. 3 in polls

Preseason publications have released their polls and LSU's women's basketball team is as high as No. 3 and a consensus Top 10 team.

Street & Smith's magazine and the Women's Basketball News Service selected the Lady Tigers third in the nation behind Duke and Tennessee.

Street & Smith's had the following to say about the Lady Tigers:

"First, everyone is back from a team that rode a six-woman rotation to the SEC Tournament championship game, along with a hopefully healthy DeTrina White, a 5-11 post who plays about 6-3. With 6-2 Aiysha Smith already an inside force, and mighty mike point guard Temeka Johnson running the show, LSU has all the pieces."

Gball Magazine and All-Star Girls Report each have LSU ranked fifth, while Women's Basketball Magazine and Athlon Sports each ranked the Lady Tigers sixth. Lindy's Sports Magazine and tabbed LSU at No. 7.

"It is easy to look good on paper before we have even played a game," LSU head coach Sue Gunter said. "Obvious it is positive publicity for our program, we have to stand the test of time, play one game at a time and stay healthy. It is the poll at the end of the season that really counts."

LSU finished last season with a 18-12 record and ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press poll. The Lady Tigers advanced to the SEC Tournament title game and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
