Patchan Coming To Town

Death Valley will play host to some of the best high school recruits in the country this Saturday for the LSU vs. Auburn game. One of the recruits that will be in attendance is Matt Patchan (6'7, 265, 4.7) out of Seffner, Florida.

Matt Patchan's #3 ranked offensive tackle informed that he will be in Baton Rouge to watch the Tigers bounce back from their first loss of the season.

"I spoke to coach [Les] Miles and coach [Earl] Lane last week and informed them I will be making the trip to Baton Rouge this weekend for the Auburn game," Patchan said. "We spoke after the Florida game and they were kind of recapping the game with me and telling me how they felt about their team's performance. They kind of broke down the things they thought they did right and wrong in the game.

"I've visited LSU before for a camp, but I didn't get the chance to really take in the campus," Patchan added. "This will be an official visit and I want to take in the game day atmosphere. I will be going up there with my parents and I want them to get a feel for the area as well. I want to see just how loud that stadium can get and since I will be arriving on Friday, I am hoping to get a look at how the campus looks on a school day."

It appears Patchan is a fan of the Tigers because he has watched just about all of their games.

The lat time TigerRag spoke with the 5-star recruit, he said he was able to watch the Virginia Tech game. Since then, Patchan has watched LSU's games against Florida and Kentucky as well.

"The win over Florida was big," Patchan stated. "They ended up losing to Kentucky, but it was still a good game. I mean in the SEC it is a battle week in and week out. It is almost impossible to stay undefeated while playing in that conference.

"With that said, many one loss teams have battled back," he continued. "Some have even made it to the title game. It will be good to see how LSU handles the loss this week as they take on Auburn.

Patchan knows first hand what it feels like to play on an undefeated team.

"Football and school have been going really good for me lately," Patchan stated. "I am on track to graduate in December and my team is currently 7-0 on top of that. We are looking to win a big division game this Thursday night against Hillsborough High School. I think we should handle them pretty easily."

Armwood High School's big hog also stated he narrowed his previous top 5 (LSU, Florida, Miami, Florida St, and Ole Miss) down to just 3.

"I would say that I am seriously considering just three schools right now," Patchan informed. "Those teams would be LSU, Florida and Miami. I've already made a visit to Florida, I'm taking an official to LSU this weekend and I am taking another official to Miami for the Virginia game later this season.

"I am still waiting to decide after I have taken all of my official visits," he said. "It looks like I will probably make my announcement sometime in early January."

Note: Patchan finished his junior season with 99 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, eight sacks, four fumbles caused and four recovered. He graded out at 93% and had 54 pancakes without giving up a single sack.
