Tasmin Mitchell named to Coaches All-SEC team

The Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday its fourth annual pre-season All-SEC coaches selections and LSU junior forward Tasmin Mitchell was named a unanimous choice for first-team preseason all-SEC.

Mitchell was one of five players to be named as a unanimous selection to the eight-player first team. Mitchell joined Richard Hendrix of Alabama, Jamont Gordon of Mississippi State, Chris Lofton of Tennessee and Shan Foster of Vanderbilt. The other first-team choices were Patrick Beverley of Arkansas, Ramel Bradley of Kentucky and Charles Rhodes of Mississippi State.

Mitchell, a junior from Denham Springs, has started every game in his first two years in Baton Rouge at LSU and last year was 12th in the conference in scoring average at over 14 points per game. In two years at LSU, Mitchell has a career average of 12.9 points per game. Mitchell enters the season just 123 points shy of joining the 1,000 career point club at LSU and 110 rebounds away from the 500 rebound group at LSU.

The second team chosen by the coaches consists of Alonzo Gee of Alabama, Steve Hill, Charles Thomas and Sonny Weems of Arkansas, Marreese Speights of Florida, Sundiata Gaines of Georgia, Joe Crawford of Kentucky, Dwayne Curtis of Ole Miss and JaJuan Smith and Tyler Smith of Tennessee.
