Is Ryan Baker Solid?

In July, linebacker Ryan Baker (6'0, 210, 4.6) out of Blountstown Senior High School gave his verbal pledge to LSU. Since then, there have been rumors that Baker may still be looking at other schools. Baker informed of exactly what has been going on with him lately.

"School and football have been going really good," Baker stated. "My grades are cool and I think I am leading my district in tackles with like 110 or 115."

When Baker is not on the field making tackles he is usually at home watching football or speaking with coaches.

"I speak with coach Henson from LSU every week," said Baker. "He basically just calls me to check up on me and to see how I am doing.

"Coaches from Florida, Clemson and Arkansas call me every week as well," said Baker. "I am not rude with them. I listen to what they have to say. They do not really try to get me to go back on my word with LSU, but they do try to show me all of the stuff their team or school can offer me. I sometimes speak with coaches from Florida St, but not as often as the other schools. For the most part all of those teams have asked me to go visit their school and I tell them that it is not something that I want to do."

Baker had a message for the LSU Tiger fans that have been hearing the rumors.

"Tell them to go to bed at night and to relax because I am an LSU Tiger," said Baker. "I watch LSU play on T.V. weekly. I know that some of their last few games have been close, but it is the SEC and that's what you expect. There isn't a game in the SEC that is a given. LSU could have lost every game this season and I would still want to be an LSU Tiger."

The talented Florida product said he will be tuned in to the showdown in Tuscaloosa this weekend as well.

"I spoke to coach [Kirby] Smart from Alabama last weekend," Baker said. "He was telling me how Alabama was going to do this and were going to do that to LSU this weekend, but I wasn't trying to hear all of that.

"I think the whole Ryan Perriloux situation might slow down LSU a little bit and that is it," Baker added. "I think LSU will win 27-14. I mean how are you going to slow down a freight train? LSU is about winning national titles."

Note: Talented two-way player who finished his junior season with 139 tackles (13 games), 22.5 for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He also added 974 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns.
