"I just got off of the phone with coach [Larry] Porter," Sheppard stated. "I told him I wanted to commit and now I am about to try to get in touch with coach [Les] Miles to let him know as well.
"LSU is a good school and a good fit for me," Shepard added. "This recruiting stuff was getting too hectic so I wanted to get it out of the way early so I could focus on my upcoming season. I know LSU is where I want to go."
There are some skeptics out there who believe Shepard will change his mind once he takes other official visits. Shepard had a few words for those doubters.
"Right now there is really no other place I want to visit," Shepard informed. "I know I haven't visited schools like Michigan or Florida, so this right here should tell them how I feel about LSU.
"People must think that I can be easily amused, but that's not me," Sheppard continued. "I've been around big time schools for just about my entire life, since the eighth grade even. I've been around players who were being recruited by just about everyone and I saw first-hand how the process works. I know the things coaches try to say to get you to go to their school and I know how this recruiting thing goes. I just know LSU is the place for me."
Note: When asked how did his friends, family and girlfriend react to his decision, Shepard replied jokingly, "Besides you, only three other people know about this right now and that's my mom, my dad and coach Porter. I haven't even told my girlfriend!"
