A big weekend ahead

It is going to be a big weekend on the LSU campus with Alabama coming to town for a big SEC Western Division showdown on the baseball diamond and then the reigning BCS National Champions will wrap up spring practice with the spring game in Tiger Stadium. It will also be a big recruiting weekend as several high-profile prospects are scheduled to be in town for an unofficial visit.

Les Miles and his staff have divided up the squad into two teams and the format for the spring game has been set with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.

The first half will be played as a full regulation contest but in the second half the clock will stay running except during radio timeouts and injuries.

Ryan Perrilloux has missed the entire spring and will not participate in the game and Miles has decided that Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch would both see time on the purple and the white squad.

Injuries and lack of depth at certain positions played a big part in Miles' decision on splitting up the squad but it should still be quite entertaining for the fans.

"We divided the teams for the spring game and it will mostly be the first-team guys against second-team guys," Miles said. "We put some key ones in with the twos, guys that will help give the second team a chance to score and defend. We also did that to see certain guys in specific match ups. The white team will be mostly first-team guys with the second-team guys being the purple team. We may have to handicap the score by starting the purple team with some points but we are going to see how it goes."

"It will be a game-like situation for our players on Saturday. The opportunity to win and compete in front of a large crowd is there. I want to encourage everybody to be there because certainly your team is looking forward to seeing a big crowd and playing in front of the people they care for."

On the recruiting front, the staff will entertain recruits from all over the South and for some tidbits on who is coming in this weekend along with some other notes Click here
