Tigers in MLB
Greg Smith went six strong innings in his major league debut for Oakland and although the A’s defeated the Blue Jays 6-3 he didn’t pick up the win. It was still a standout performance for the former Tiger hurler as he allowed only two hits and three runs (two earned), and registered five strikeouts. He battled some control problems with five walks but all in all it was a good start to what hopes to be a promising career for the Alexandria native.
Aaron Hill started at second base for Toronto and he went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice and an RBI in the loss.
Paul Byrd dropped to 0-2 on the season after he allowed six earned runs on only five hits but three of the hits went over the fence for homers. He lasted only three innings and his ERA is now up to 11.05 on the season.
Ryan Theriot entered the game in the eighth frame and went 1-for-4 with a single and he also scored a run.
Brad Hawpe took the night off for Colorado in the Rockies’ 12-6 win over the Braves.
