A new favorite for Merrill

The saga surrounding one of the top defensive tackles in the country took another turn last week.

D'Iberville, Miss., prospect Sean Merrill called the Ole Miss coaching staff and told them he was still looking at a few schools and that his commitment to the Rebels was not binding.

Merrill has been torn between LSU and Ole Miss since his junior year but you can add Alabama to the mix because Merrill will visit the Crimson Tide campus on Dec. 13.
When asked is Ole Miss Was his leader, Merrill replied, "No."
"LSU is No. 1, followed by Ole Miss and then Alabama," Merrill said. "After I got back from Ole Miss, I just was not comfortable with my decision so I started to reevaluate everything."
He visited LSU during the Tigers' off week and had a great time. LSU defensive tackle Kyle Williams was his host and the two had a great time according to Merrill.
"I already knew everything about LSU but I wanted to see what the depth at defensive tackle was like," he said. "I left there very happy."
This could go all the way to signing day, but the Tigers are in good shape for this one right now.
Sonny's View: The impression I got from talking with Sean was that LSU is his top choice but he may be getting pressure from the local community. The one thing that he really likes about Ole Miss is the coaching staff and I think he realized that it may not be together too much longer if the Rebels continue to falter down the stretch year in and year out.
