LSU is in a battle with Southern California for the top defensive tackle prospect on the west coast in Chino, Calif. standout Sedrick Ellis (6-3, 270, 4.8).

Ellis made his trip to LSU last weekend and spoke with Tiger Rag about his impressions.
Ellis was recently in Baton Rouge for his official visit when the Tigers were manhandled by Alabama 31-0. The loss did not dampen Ellis' trip too much and he saw enough to vault the Tigers into a tie with Southern California for his signature as we are less than three months away from National Signing Day.
LSU defensive end Marcus Spears hosted Ellis for the weekend and the two hit it off.
"We got along great," Ellis said. "We talked about football, school and a lot of different things. I met a lot of guys that I really liked hanging out."
Ellis said he is pretty much down to five schools with LSU, USC, Oregon, Oklahoma and UCLA still in the mix. He rated his first official visit an eight or nine on a scale of 1-10 and said he was most impressed with the atmosphere and the fan support. He said college football does not get the attention it deserves on the West Coast and that is something he is looking at.
Sonny's View: Ellis was right about one thing and that is the attention college football gets in the south compared to the larger cities on the West Coast. Could that be a factor? I think so. Will LSU get a commitment from him? We will have to wait and see.
