Greenville-Miss. native Quenton Groves (6-4, 235, 4.5) was scheduled to make an unofficial visit to the LSU campus on Saturday when the Tigers host Ole Miss in a Southeastern Conference showdown, but a change of plans forced him to have to change things up.
"I thought I was going to be able to go but my coach could not take me," Groves told Tiger Rag. "I will take an official visit there but we have not set it up yet."
LSU defensive line coach Lance Thompson is recruiting him as a defensive end, while some other coaches want him as an outside linebacker. He said he is still wide open with his choices and he is still looking at Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss, along with the Bayou Bengals. How did LSU catch his eye?
"They have a rich tradition of winning and they believe in their guys down there," Rogers said. "I want to be a part of a program that believes in winning. Coach (Nick) Saban turned that program around quick. It went from being one of the most looked-down upon programs in the country to being one of the best."
Sonny's View: Groves had a great time at Auburn and the War Eagle squad may be the team to beat. He is tough to figure out because I sincerely believe he is still wide open and all of the schools he mentioned have a shot. Rarely do you see an athlete of his caliber still considering seven schools in the same conference this late in recruiting.
