Kevin Brent (5-11, 205) has had a bit of a rocky start to his senior season at South Oak Cliff High School. Besides a disappointing loss last week, he had to be taken from the field in an ambulance in week two of the campaign.
“I hit someone the wrong way and got a mild concussion,” Brent said. “I’m fine now though. For the season I’m not sure how many tackles I have, but I know I have one interception and a fumble recovery, and returned both of them for touchdowns.”
Brent is undoubtedly one of the top safeties in the country as he is currently rated a 4-star prospect and the 4th best safety by Scout.com. So, it’s not very surprising that he is a top target for many schools across the country.
“I’ve got around 25 or 26 offers now,” he said. “I just got one from Wisconsin the other day. My top four is Oklahoma, LSU, Texas Tech, and USC, in no real order, but OU and LSU are at the top. I’m still kind of thinking about Missouri too. I just think those are the schools that would provide the best fit for me.”
Brent is hoping to make an official visit to each of his top schools at some point this season before making his decision in either December or January. However, there are some trips planned of the unofficial variety coming up soon.
“I’m going to the Texas-Oklahoma game and the LSU-Alabama game,” Brent said. “Both of those will be unofficial visits. I’ll probably go to games at Missouri and Texas Tech too. USC will have to be an official visit.
“I’ll also visit Oklahoma, LSU, Texas Tech, and one other school for officials. My Oklahoma official will probably be when they play Texas Tech and LSU told me they want me to come after the season.”
Speaking of the Tigers, Brent continues to mention LSU among his favorite schools and says that he maintains a strong interest in the defending national champions.
“I just talked to Coach McCarthy last week,” he said. “When we talk it’s not really about football, he just asks how I’m doing and stuff. They’re supposed to come to my game on Friday. I got to watch a little of the end of their game last weekend and that defense was playing hard and fast.”
