The stars shine

The high school football regular season is drawing to a close, but the rewards of making it to the post-season are within reach for some. Here is a look at a few of LSU's commitments and prospects from the 2009 and 2010 classes from this past weekend.

LSU Commitments

 

Russell Shepard led Cy Ridge to a 47-0 victory over Jersey Village on Saturday.

 

The 5-star signal caller completed 11-of-19 passes for 142 yards with one touchdown while going for two scores and 110 yards on 14 rushes.

 

On the year, Shepard has completed 75-of-138 through the air for 1,135 yards with 11 scores and three interceptions. He leads the Rams in rushing with 811 yards and 11 scores on 129 rushes.

Chris Garrett sat out of last night's 41-0 victory for Tupleo, still feeling the effects from the concussion he suffered last week against South Panola.

Michael Ford posted his fifth consecutive 200-yard game on Friday night in a 22-6 win over Peabody. He ran 29 times for 218 yards with one touchdown from 33 yards out.

On the season, Ford is up to 1,838 yards and 17 touchdowns on 199 carries.

Navasota running back Dexter Pratt carried the ball 24 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns in the Rattlers 42-21 victory over Taylor.

 

The game put Pratt over 100 carries on the season, reaching the 114 mark for 811 yards and 10 touchdowns.

 

Navasota remains undefeated on the season (7-0).

4-star receiver Kenny Bell was limited to 2 catches for 36 yards in Rayville's 46-14 loss to Richwood. On the year, Bell now has 31 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns.

 

2009 Prospects

 

Rueben Randle led Bastrop to a 22-10 win over Neville. He was 16-of-23 passing for 246 yards with a pair of interceptions. Randle didn't throw for a score, but he ran one in from nine yards out and finished with 38 yards rushing on 13 attempts.

 

On the season, Randle has accounted for 17 touchdowns. He is 87-for-161 through the air with 1,002 yards, throwing five interceptions and 10 touchdown passes. On the ground, Randle has rushed 73 times for 444 yards and seven scores.

Orson Charles finished with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown, as well as one rush for 17 yards, as Plant routed Leto 50-14.

Christine Michael rushed for 135 yards and scored three touchdowns on 13 carries in West Brook's 26-0 victory over Memorial. His scoring runs were from 1 and 8 yards then he ended things with a 79-yard scoring gallop.

Morris Claiborne led Fair Park in rushing but the Indians fell to Parkway 25-22. Claiborne scored a touchdown on the ground and finished with 74 yards on 13 carries. He also threw a 56-yard touchdown pass and finished 8-of-11 for 94 yards.

Marlon Brown was held to just one catch, but he took it for 16 yards and a touchdown, in Harding's 35-14 win over Timpton-Rosemark Academy.

Dre Kirkpatrick returned a punt for an 85-yard score in Gadsden City's 28-12 win over Clay-Chalkville.

 

 

2010 Prospects

 

Taylor Burch was 12-for-27 through the air for 214 yards with a pair of interceptions. He ran for a 10-yard touchdown but finished with negative-10 yards on the ground.

Terrance Broadway went out with a knee injury at the eight minute mark in the first quarter, looking to be done for the night.

 

Broadway returned late in the second quarter, however, and led Capitol to the win over Redemptorist. 

 

Though Capitol ran the ball a majority of the time after his return, Broadway finished by connecting on three of his 13 passes for 94 yards, including a 59-yard scoring strike to Prentiss Jackson in the fourth quarter.

Sharpstown's Sam Carter passed for 213 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown in Sharpstown's first ever victory over Yates.

Lache Seastrunk and his Temple squad defeated Bryan 35-20. The talented junior ran for 137 and scored two touchdowns on 16 carries, and added a 7-yard touchdown reception.

 

For the year, Seastrunk has carried the ball 118 times for 1,108 yards with 11 rushing touchdowns.

Marcus Lattimore carried the ball 20 times for 72 yards while pulling in four catches for 44 yards in Friday's loss to Dorman. The loss gave the Rebels their first on the season, while Dorman moved to 9-0.

Defensive end Rashad Givens caught a 20-yard touchdown pass as he lined up at the tight end slot for Richwood Friday night.
