A return trip

With the gulf coast turning out some of the Magnolia State's top talent, the Tiger coaching staff is heading to south Mississippi once again, this time after 2010 offensive tackle Wes Rea.

Rea (6-5, 290) made the trip to Baton Rouge this weekend to see the Tigers take on the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. This was the big man’s second trip to Death Valley this season, and a little more memorable than his first visit.

"It was an unbelievable time, even with the outcome not being what everyone was hoping for," Rea said. "I was at the [Mississippi] State game, so this was my second time in Tiger Stadium.

“It is just an insane atmosphere,” added Rea. “You go to other schools and enjoy everything they have to offer, but the atmosphere on gameday in Baton Rouge is just different than anywhere else you go."

The Harrison Central standout, who is being recruited by special teams/defensive ends coach Joe Robinson, arrived Friday night with his mother and brother.

"We got in late Friday and then had a quick turnaround to Saturday morning," Rea said. "Before the game I got a chance to just hang out in the Lawton Room with a bunch of guys and relax. Travis Dickson was down there with us, so he was showing all the Mississippi guys around.

"We got a chance to get out before the game and take the field," Rea added. "It was a blast, with people screaming and everything. It is crazy to even think of playing in front of a stadium and crowd that big. It is absolutely amazing."

With the Gulfport-native drawing looks from schools across the Southeastern Conference, is an offer from the defending national champions in sight?

"I got a chance to talk with Coach Stud for a while about things," Rea said. "He said that they had just gotten my film in and Coach Henson had watched it and been pretty impressed.

“Coach Stud said that he would get his eyes on it next, and to just keep doing what I have been doing,” added Rea. “I think things should start shaping up after they get a chance to evaluate me and all that."

Rea leads Harrison Central against Oak Grove next Friday in the first round of the Mississippi 5A playoffs.
