Some shuffling

Carver High standout linebacker Jarvis Jones is tops among the holiday wish lists for head coaches across the college football landscape. With four official visits on his plate, Jones (6'3.5", 225, 4.55) is narrowing his focus, setting his sights on the upcoming campus visits that he will take.

"I am going to take an official to Georgia on Friday," said Jones, who took his first official to USC on Oct. 31. "Then I am taking a break before going to Florida on Jan. 16, Texas Jan. 23 and LSU Jan. 30."

With rumors out there that the race has narrowed to Florida and Texas, the 4-star strongside linebacker remains firm in saying that the race is wide open.

"I am pretty open to all of them right now," Jones said. "I know that people may say that I am leaning this way or that way, but that is not the case. I don't even know where I am at right now, because all of them are great places. I am just going to take these visits and see where I am at."

After visiting the Tigers on Nov. 8 for the Alabama game, Jones (6-3 ½, 225, 4.55) is anxious to get back onto campus for his official visit in January.

"The Alabama game was great," he said. "I wish they would have won, but you couldn't ask for a better atmosphere. I think that LSU is a great place, and I really hit it off with the coaches and players. They always have made me feel comfortable and I know that they want me playing for them."

While Jones was recruited primarily by head coach Les Miles and defensive coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto for much of his process, his relationship with running backs coach Larry Porter has begun to blossom.

"Coach Porter has been recruiting me pretty hard lately," Jones said. "He is from Columbus too, and he is a really great man. We have a good relationship, to the point where we can have good conversations and not have to be talking about recruiting. That is one thing I like about him."

Jones is scheduled to play in the Army All-American Game on Jan. 3.
