Sam Montgomery has marched to the beat of his own drum throughout his recruitment, and Wednesday morning the 4-star defensive end let out one last surprise as he sent his letter of intent to head coach Les Miles and the LSU Tigers.

Montgomery, who was rumored to be staying on the east coast for college despite verbally expressing interest in the Tigers, chose the Bayou Bengals over North Carolina and Tennessee.

Montgomery recorded 85 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks during his senior year.

He was selected AP All-State First Team, Press Register's Super Southeast 120 (#23), selected to the Shrine Bowl and the Under Armour All-American Game.
