Prince Shembo never really followed college football prior to high school, a time that saw college coaches begin to flood his mailbox with letters of interest.
An option for coaches at either defensive end or outside linebacker, Shembo's six-foot-two, 220-pound frame makes him the complete package in most eyes.
Early offers from across the board confirm that assertion.
"My recruitment has been going really good," Shembo said. "I have eight offers now, which is pretty impressive with it still being early in the recruiting season. Notre Dame, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Illinois, East Carolina, North Carolina State and Duke have all offered, so I am feeling positive about where things are headed."
With interest still coming from the Tigers, where does Shembo rank LSU on his board?
Shembo watched the Tigers roll Georgia Tech in their bowl game, a performance that left a lasting mark on the junior.
"Boy, that was a great game," he said. "That showed that LSU has a very good program, because it was a great bowl showing. I loved what I saw. [LSU] had a lot of size on their defense, and that impressed me."
With teams hot on his trail, Shembo said that he is going to let the coming weeks take him on a number of recruiting journeys along the eastern seaboard.
"I want to get up to Chapel Hill this weekend to visit UNC," he said. "I also plan on being at Florida State the weekend after that, so I am going to just let the recruiting stuff flow, because I am in the mode for it now. I have not really gone anywhere as far south as Tallahassee before, so these trips will be good."
When does the big man plan on shutting his process down next season?
"I am going to take some official visits and, if I am able to qualify for a bowl game, announce my decision after the season," Shembo said. "If I do not make it to a bowl game I will announce on signing day. I want to have a great year in 2009 because of my hamstring injury last season, so hopefully it will all work out for me."
Shembo recorded 90 tackles, nine sacks, two interceptions and 22 hurries in his junior campaign.
