D.J. Norris returns from the West Coast

High school all-stars from California and Florida squared off last weekend in the annual California-Florida Bowl out on the West coast.

D.J. Norris of Pace, Fla. (6-2, 235, 4.6) is one of the Sunshine State's best blocking tight ends for 2003 and now that he is back from the all-star classic it is time for some recruiting trips.

"I'm going to Florida this weekend and then Tennessee (1/17), LSU (1/24) and Florida State (1/31)," Norris said.

He made an official visit to Georgia Tech a few weeks ago and after taking some time to look at everything, he said Georgia Tech just was not the same as the other schools he lists.

"It was alright," Norris told Tiger Rag. "But, I don't know if that is the place for me. It's not like a football school. I don't want to go to a school just because of football but it's not like the other places with atmosphere and everything."

Norris likes the cities that crave its college football and that was one of the reasons he took up such a strong interest in the Tiger program.

"I like the atmosphere," Norris said of LSU. "I like coach Muschamp and coach Saban a lot. The overall town of Baton Rouge and the school is good. I also have family there."

LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has done a terrific job with his recruitment and seems to have built a solid bond with the standout.

"He (Muschamp) is crazy," Norris said. "I can relate to him so well because he is so young. He is a great guy."

Although he could play on either side of the ball at the next level, the Tigers are looking for Norris to help out at F-back. He got a glimpse of what his duties would be like while he was in California and he seemed right at home.

"I played fullback instead of tight end and they had me just blocking mostly," he said. "I did pretty good. Blocking is what I am really good at, that, and being able to get down the field."

As he prepares to make one of the most important decisions of his life, he often gets asked whether or not he has a leader.

"No," he said. "I wish."
